The Telegraph's 27th annual Christmas Charity Appeal raised more than £500,000 for three deserving charities, thanks to the generosity of its readers. We were delighted to play a part and process readers' donations.
All three charities - Heads Together, Roald Dahl's Marvelllous Children's Charity and The Blue Cross Animal Charity - expressed their gratitude at a recent cheque presentation. We were delighted to be there and to have played a part in managing readers' donations.
Over the last 26 years, the Telegraph Christmas charity appeal has raised more than £23 million to improve the lives of those in need and this year was no exception.
Blue Cross received £149,701. It helps to treat and re-home more than 35,000 sick and homeless animals every year, as well as offering support to anyone grieving over the loss of a pet.
Julia McKechnie-Burke, Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications at Blue Cross: “We are deeply grateful to the Daily Telegraph for choosing us as one of its beneficiaries for their Christmas Appeal. They have enabled us to showcase the vital work we do and raised invaluable funds allowing us to help even more abandoned, sick and injured pets each year.”
The Heads Together campaign received £226,495. It aids the work of several mental health charities. The campaign, jointly coordinated by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, provides help to those who need it, while raising awareness and tackling the stigma of mental health problems.
The Duchess of Cambridge: "Telegraph readers’ support for the Heads Together campaign has been fantastic. William, Harry and I are working to change the conversation on mental health from one of stigma and fear to one of support and openness. Your generosity will make a big difference in the lives of so many people. Thank you so much.”
Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity received £173,896. It funds specialist nurses, research and family grants for children in greatest need. The money raised will help to provide more specialist children's nurses.
Jane Miles, Chief Executive at Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity: "The money raised from the generous donations of Telegraph readers will help to ensure that more seriously ill children have access to the care and support they deserve."
