Sir Michael took up this voluntary role following the announcement that he would be stepping back from his position as Managing Director of Bibby Line Group.
His decision to accept a non-executive role at one of the UK’s largest charitable donations management agencies allows him to support the not-for-profit business that helps business and charities work better together and devote more time to his position as President of the Chamber of Shipping and Chairman of the Institute of Family Business Research Foundation. In addition, Sir Michael is a long-standing philanthropist with a wide range of charitable interests.
Sir Michael said: “I am delighted to join Charities Trust which, over the last 30 years, has supported its clients and their employees to raise hundreds of millions of pounds. I am looking forward to guiding Charities Trust to further enhance its reputation as the UK’s stand-out donations management organisation.
Welcoming Sir Michael’s appointment, Charities Trust Chief Executive Linda Minnis said: “Sir Michael has just the right mix of international-scale business and charities interests. He comes from a business culture that is built on impressive values and has always sought to give back. He brings all of these impressive talents to Charities Trust together with an engaging personality and enlightened original thinking. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have him working with us.”
Charities Trust, over the last decade, has distributed more than half a billion pounds to more than 50,000 charities and good causes here in the UK and overseas on behalf of tens of thousands of generous employees and corporates.
