Payday

Liverpool and Sefton Chamber of Commerce members, Charities Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Charity, have joined forces to launch a Payroll Giving campaign that allows employees to donate to their favourite charity straight from their pay easily and tax efficiently.

They are asking fellow members to put good causes on the payroll by registering for the scheme and really helping to Make Payday Count.

The project will also support Alder Hey Children’s Charity in raising valuable funds for life-changing children’s healthcare research.

The Charity has already raised significant funds towards for Alder Hey’s new world-class hospital, investing in lifesaving equipment, vital research projects and arts and play activities.

Euan Imrie, chief operating officer of Liverpool-based Charities Trust, said: “Charities Trust’s aim is to grow charitable giving by making it as simple and as straightforward as possible for companies and their employees to raise money for, and donate money to charities.

“We do this by offering a wide range of fundraising tools and services (including Payroll Giving) for corporate organisations across the UK. “We are very proud to be based here in Liverpool and wanted to launch a campaign in the city, which allowed local organisations and charities to work together.

“Payroll Giving is very easy for companies to administer and we know that employees really appreciate their employers giving them the opportunity to make charitable donations in this way”

Last year, Charities Trust processed over 3m Payroll Giving donations for over 1,000 companies paying over £43m to registered charities and good causes across the UK. It also provides other charitable giving services, including managing corporate foundations, administering charity match schemes and running charity of the year schemes.

Hayley Weaver from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “When we first met with Charities Trust we instantly saw the merits of Payroll Giving as a way of supporting our fundraising activities. For a charity like ours receiving regular monthly donations would help us to make Alder Hey in the Park a truly child-friendly environment, and fund pioneering medical research and innovation”

Alder Hey

Alder Hey is one of Europe’s largest and busiest children’s hospitals, caring for over 275,000 children and young people every year.

In October 2015, ‘Alder Hey in the Park’, a new state-of-the-art children’s hospital alongside a dedicated research, innovation and edication centre (Institute in the Park) was opened. The £250m children’s healthcare campus has been inspired and designed with the help of children and young people. It has 270 beds together with 16 digitally enhanced operating theatres. The majority of children and their families have their own room with en-suite facilities and each ward has its own kitchen providing freshly cooked food to order. Alder Hey Children’s Charity continues to raise money to support research which will help clinicians to develop safer, better medicines and therapies for children to use in the NHS and across the world.

Charities Trust is offering Chamber members the opportunity to launch a Payroll Giving scheme so that their employees can make regular monthly donations to Alder Hey or to any other registered charity and good cause of their choice.

All donations are deducted from the employee’s pre-tax (gross) pay giving immediate tax relief and resulting in the employee paying less to make a donation. For example, a monthly pledge of £10 would only cost £8 or £6, for higher rate tax payers, with the taxman making up the difference.

Getting started couldn’t be easier and requires a minimum of effort for the Payroll Department or Payroll Provide.
