Match Giving or Funding involves an employer agreeing to match the donations or fundraising made by their employees, effectively increasing the impact of their charitable contributions.

When it comes to your Payroll Giving scheme, Match Funding can have a huge impact on its success – both in terms of employee participation and the amounts people give.

Charities Trust own research has previously showed that people were 84% more likely to give to a charitable cause if match funding was offered and over a third would donate more.

That’s clearly great news for charities but for your business the benefits are also clear with employees feeling more motivated and connected to their companies knowing they are willing to support the causes most important to them.

As a business, investing in Match Giving doesn’t have to break the bank.

We see many organisations offering to match employee donations up to a capped amount or for a set time period; helping to limit the budget required.

Other clients use Match Giving as an incentive to join a Payroll Giving scheme; matching employee donations for the first three months for example.

There are a number of times on the calendar when Match Giving can be a powerful tool to increase participation in your giving programmes. Each ‘Giving Tuesday’ for example, qualifying NatWest Group employees receive £100 to distribute to charities of their choice through Charities Trust. In addition, NatWest Group’s Community Cashback scheme recognises employee’s own fundraising and volunteering with small awards for their chosen charity or community group of £10 to £500.

Overall, match funding can be a powerful tool in promoting and enhancing your Payroll Giving scheme and broader giving programmes. If you’d like to discuss ideas and how we make it easy for you to introduce Match Giving please get in touch and our team will be delighted to help.
